Overview

The ACCC is hosting two key consumer events in Melbourne – the annual Ruby Hutchison Memorial Lecture (co-hosted with CHOICE) and the National Consumer Congress.

Ruby Hutchison Memorial Lecture

Consumer rights in the new economy

Tuesday 14 March 2017
5:30 pm–7:30 pm
RACV Club
501 Bourke Street, Melbourne

What can be done to protect consumers during some of the most vulnerable periods in their lives?

Australian consumers are increasingly being forced to navigate new markets – in aged care, tenancy and childcare – where they suffer information asymmetry, a lack of bargaining power and private service providers with incentives not aligned to their best interests.

The ACCC and CHOICE invite you to hear from one of Australia's leading economics journalists, Jessica Irvine, as she presents the latest instalment of the highly regarded Ruby Hutchison Memorial Lecture series. Jessica is a senior economics writer for The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age newspapers. She is a regular commentator on television and radio and is the author of two books.

National Consumer Congress

Consumer protection in a changing world

Wednesday 15 March 2017
9:15am–4:35pm
ZINC at Federation Square
Corner of Flinders & Swanston Streets, Melbourne

The National Consumer Congress is the annual conference bringing together stakeholders from across the public, private and community sectors to explore the key issues facing Australian consumers.

Hosted by the ACCC, the 2017 Congress will feature speakers from a range of backgrounds sharing their perspectives on consumer protection in a changing world.

More detail about the speakers and sessions is available in the Congress program below.
