If you are a quad bike user, what would be the impact of the proposed options?
My husband and myself are farmers. We bought the first 3 wheeler that came onto the market for the reason to save labour and time on the dairy farm.
Then when the 4 wheeler came out we could see the benefits of stability of the 4 wheels and towing a trailer. Our children have naturally grown up on the farm and been taught safety etc. they have grown up to be farmers themselves.Farmers need to instill farming into kids at an early age. You cannot expect them to suddenly start riding a quad at 16yrs and start going for cows, checking fences, shifting electric fences, checking cows calving. we have to encourage them by riding the quad. looking into history most quad deaths are farmers over 80yrs or visitors to the farm.As for the frames ask many and they will say body parts and dogs (which are a must on farms) gets trapped under these.

4. What effect will each of the proposed options have in saving lives and reducing deaths?

Common sense has gone in this day and age. People have quad bikes when they do not use them on farms and let visitors ride them. And how many old farmers still use vehicles the same way as they did 50 years ago. My father was the same. Ï've been round longer than any of those young buggers. I could show them a thing or two. Not realising their reflexes are not as quick as they once were. How many have had spray units on bike going up dam banks and without realising the consequences. Thats another thing spray units stay on the bike different parts of the year. How with these so called safety things on. How do we take a small bale of hay to a sick cow down the paddock? The people who decide these things are not farmers. Or are retired Or visiting. Farmers do not have time to do surveys they work 7 days a week. It took 10mins to type inweb address.
