Overview

Stage 2 Consultation update

Stage 2 consultation of detailed information on financial performance of airports is now open.

The ACCC monitors prices, revenues, costs and profits of aeronautical, car parking and landside access services at the monitored airports to promote transparency of services for which there is little or no competition.

In response to a recommendation from the Productivity Commission’s 2019 report on the economic regulation of airports, the Australian Government has asked the ACCC to review the indicators, to:

  • review the current record-keeping and reporting requirements under Part 7 of the Airports Act 1996 and the Airports Regulations 1997 (Airports Regulations) to identify any amendments to these instruments that may be needed to give effect to the PC’s 2019 recommendations
  • consult with airports and airlines to determine whether any of the additional information the monitored airports would be required to provide is commercially sensitive, and to develop approaches to reporting that information which balance disclosure with the need to protect sensitive information
  • provide recommendations to the Australian Government in a timely manner to allow the Australian Government to finalise its review of the Airports Regulations before they sunset on 1 April 2024.

The government has requested the ACCC to consult with airports, airlines and other airport users before providing this advice.
