Water markets decisions information session for irrigation infrastructure operators and others - April 2026
Overview
New laws come into effect on 1 July 2026 that impose obligations on certain water market participants to announce water markets decisions. These aim to improve the function and governance of the Murray-Darling Basin water markets, and increase overall market confidence, integrity and trust.
The obligations will apply to water markets decisions made by:
- Australian Government agencies
- Murray-Darling Basin state agencies
- Irrigation Infrastructure Operators (IIOs)

Once registrations have closed, we will confirm your registration and email you a link to the online meeting.
The information session will not be recorded, but the slides will be made available to interested stakeholders following the session.
We note that participant personal information, including participant’s names, may be visible to other information session attendees.
As part of the information session registration process, we invite you to submit questions about the new laws which you would like us to answer at the session. You may also ask questions during the information session using the Teams chat function.
Questions submitted in advance may be read aloud by ACCC staff without identifying you, but questions asked during the session using the chat function will be attributable to your name.
If you have a question about the new laws, but would prefer that the question not be raised during the information session, please indicate this on the registration form. ACCC staff may contact you to discuss your question at a later date.
