The ACCC is reviewing the mandatory safety standard for bunk beds.

Stakeholders are invited to make written submissions on the consultation paper and draft regulation impact statement by close of business 11 April 2016.

Why your views matter

The purpose of this review is the assess whether the mandatory safety standard for bunk beds remains effective and if there are more efficient ways of achieving the same level of safety. The ACCC previously consulted on changes to the mandatory safety standard in 2014. The ACCC is consulting again because government policy now requires regulators to consider adopting trusted international standards.

The ACCC has developed a consultation document and draft regulation impact statement (RIS) which outlines what the emerging safety hazards are, which international standards the ACCC is considering to allow compliance with and what policy options the ACCC is considering. The draft RIS provides further information on the bunk bed market, an assessment of the international standards against the ACCC criteria for acceptance and a cost benefit analysis of each policy option.
