Overview

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) is seeking submissions on proposed policy options that will help reduce the risk of death and injury associated with toppling furniture.

There are three well understood concepts that are important in reducing the risk of injury associated with toppling furniture: product design, anchoring and consumer education. The proposed options contained in the Consultation Paper include some or all of these concepts.

Responses to the questions set out in the consultation paper (available below) will assist the ACCC in determining a preferred regulatory option having regard to effectiveness and appropriate cost/benefit considerations.

For further information about the risks, including safety tips for purchasing and using furniture and televisions, visit Product Safety Australia.
