2020 Broadband speed claims guidance consultation
Overview
Recent developments in the wholesale products offered by NBN Co, which includes offering retail broadband services with speeds in excess of 100 Mbps, has promoted the ACCC to consider updating the Broadband Speed Claims - Industry Guidance (Guidance).
The ACCC is seeking views from stakeholders on a number of issues relevant to the presentation of consumer information about broadband speeds with a particular focus on services with wholesale download speeds in excess of 100 Mbps.
The consultation paper below outlines recent market developments and proposed enhancements to the Guidance and contains a list of questions for consultation. Annexure A of the consultation paper contains a marked-up version of the Guidance with the ACCC's proposed changes.
The ACCC released the Guidance in August 2017 to outline good practices for retail service providers (RSPs) to adopt in presenting the speeds of their broadband plans. The ACCC has committed to reviewing the Guidance periodically.
