Why We Are Consulting

The ACCC is reviewing the safety standard for corded internal window coverings (CIWC).

The purpose of this review is to assess whether the safety standard remains effective following analysis of death and injury statistics, and market developments (i.e. the availablity of alternative safety devices and cordless products).

Policy options

The ACCC is considering four policy options:

Option 1 Keep the current safety standard (status quo)
Option 2 Make a new safety standard
Option 3 Allow compliance with international safety standards
Option 4 Revoke the safety standard.

The consultation is open from 13 February 2019 to 13 March 2019. Following the consultation process, the ACCC will make a recommendation to the Minister.
